Not Blogtober

What have you been putting off doing? Why?

I haven’t updated my blog in a while, and thankfully today the prompt has actually worked to kick me into handling that task. There isn’t any particular reason I’ve avoided blogging, and I’ve still been around to continue reading what others are up to. There were a few other writing cues I’ve started to explore over the last weeks but as my entries started to seem kind of depressing or go in an anti-social direction (when I promised myself for the rest of the year I’d keep a more positive attitude!) I decided not to post any of them after all. Nothing too exciting or dramatic has happened in my life lately, I’ve just been busy.

For a few months now, I thought I wanted to go see the Joker: Folie à Deux, but I still haven’t yet. Popular online reviews claim it’s “awful”, and I guess that could be what’s affecting my excitement. I heard the same kind of thing about Furiosa earlier this year, though, and the haters were wrong!  I’m glad I went to see that in the theater. So maybe I can try to disregard all the contrary opinions again. Lady Gaga in any role seems fun to me, but then again, the movie will show up on a streaming service before long.. it’s been too hard for me to decide what to do.

A few of my completed cross stitch projects in the tin where I keep them

Not much knitting has gone on lately because I’ve been on a cross-stitch kick. I’m not very good at cross stitching, and often question if I even enjoy doing it, but as soon as I finish one project lately, I keep wanting to make more. A sunflower I stitched on black cloth came out a little derpy, but I’m still glad I completed it (there were moments I seriously thought about quitting and throwing it away). The project I’m working on now is some pumpkins on a pale green fabric, from another free pattern. I plan to make 4 pumpkins in a row and they will be in the colors from Animal Crossing New Horizons (green, orange, white, and yellow pumpkins) a favorite video game I still continue  playing. I found a lot of free cross stitch patterns on the DMC floss website and have been stitching while I unwind from the day and catch up on podcasts or listen to an audiobook.

There are some household tasks I need to attend, like putting away laundry that’s been dried and sitting in the basket for a few days now, and taking out my trash. The power bill came this week, so I need to pay again. I didn’t mean to put these things off, but will definitely do them this weekend before it becomes urgent!

It seems so unlikely any of this is interesting but I’m glad to have gotten something posted on my blog anyway. It really has been in the back of my mind, and I feel a bit relieved now that I’m giving it some attention again.

  1. I haven’t done that either. My husband passed away last year, he was 88yrs. old. I’m 82, so I’m trying to get my life without him back on track. Keeping up with the bills, trying to clean when my back is up to it. At my age it isn’t easy, I’m 82. At least I have my oldest daughter living with me. I can’t make her do everything. It would be too much for her, she is 62. She does the laundry so I don’t have to climb 2 flights of stairs, to the basement. Plus she is on Soc. Sec. too. Plus she helps with the grocery shopping. Sometimes I order from Stop & Shop online. This is a 2 family house, Our tenant lived down on the 1st floor, he passed away from Covid a few years ago. Plus his wife passed away a few year ago also. They were our tenants for a good 50 yrs. I can’t rent out the 1st floor appartment cause it needs renovating. I can’t afford to do it. Not unless I have one room done at a time. But it will cost a lot, maybe more than I can afford. So I don’t know what I’m doing at this point.
