Vape Girls

I was taking a bus in the afternoon and three teen girls sat near me. I didn’t understand what I was seeing when one of them passed some shiny neon yellow item to her friend, but it turned out to be a vape. I have seen people with many different styles of vape, so I guess it can basically look like anything (a pen, a juice box, a case for earbuds are a few shapes I’ve noticed). They were discreet but I could see some tendrils of vapor escape their seats. Was it nicotine, or weed? I have no idea. It doesn’t upset me either way. I wish they didn’t do it (for the sake of their health), and would prefer they wait until they’re off the bus (in case it makes someone else uncomfortable) but I’m not willing to complain or scold strangers about much of anything. Even if it was my own child, at that age, I doubt I would interfere. Teenagers love to be naughty and break the rules, I can remember being that way too. It’s been very cold outside so maybe vaping in the freezing air is not enjoyable? If they were just trying to look cool and get attention, well they caught me.

One of the girls was white, one was black and I think the other looked middle-eastern, not that it matters but I was amused by watching them on my commute. They all had done a lot of styling to their hair and wore carefully applied make-up. Two of the girls had touchscreen compatible gloves on and the one with bare hands had very long and beautifully painted nails. I almost described them as “acrylics” because I’m sure they were fake, but it’s been such a long time since I was into getting professional manicures, I bet the technology is all different by now, they probably use a different material. Each of her nails seemed to be different, but the colors were all pink with white and gold. One of the girls had some intense eyelash extensions. They seemed very cool! I hope they’re okay, wherever life takes them. Sorry if I am being creepy by writing so much about these young strangers.

I started on a great three day streak posting through Bloganuary but over the weekend I fell off. There was a note on my door Friday that the power company was coming to inspect the faucets and fixtures this week, so I spent my time intensely cleaning everything that might get closely examined, instead of attending to any other hobbies. I’m trying not to feel discouraged. Sometimes life gets in the way! Not every prompt speaks to me, and moments of inspiration can come from unexpected places. I’ll be back to post again soon, whether it’s another observation of bus passengers’ fashion choices or a Bloganuary prompt that finally resonates.

  1. I love people watching, especially dynamics like you describe, imagining the conversations.
