The Cheeto Prez Again

Congratulations to Kamala Harris, she didn’t win the most important USA election of everyone’s lifetime but she majorly won all the electoral college votes of New York, where I live. She was preferred by 64% of voters here, from what I saw on PBS Newshour a few days ago. New York also voted to protect women’s rights to do whatever they want (or something along those lines). We have new official protections for LGBT&etc people, more than before (and NY was among the first 10 states with legal same-sex marriage, isn’t that nice). In my area there was a Trump supporting congress critter, who was removed from office and replaced with a more progressive Democrat! So sorry to hear about everyone who lives in the more deplorable towns and “red states”, I don’t want to think about that too much, it’s very upsetting.

President Trump term 2 was one of my first predictions for the year, so in some ways it does feel good to have that rewarding experience of “guessing correctly”. I don’t want to gloat, because I really wish I was wrong about that one! But reassurance that my intuition and understanding of the world is reliable, does bring me some comfort and inner strength to cope with unwanted news. My estimation for “how bad” this could be is uncertain so far. It’s easy to imagine it will only be as annoying and harmful as 2017-2021 was (not great!) and maybe the time will pass quickly until we can stop hearing about the most obnoxious American celebrity Donald Trump! But it’s also not hard to conjure a mental scenario that’s truly hellish with such a psycho in power again.

Around 2012 I read the book Night by Elie Wiesel so hopefully that is nothing like what’s to come (it was a memoir of someone who survived the holocaust as a teen). Because of my bleeding heart sensibilities I’ve spent a lot of my life low-key worried about fascism and various persecuted groups, reading about how dictatorships oppressed leftist people, and what resistance tactics have historically been helpful. I’m not hopeful that any of it will become useful even so. Now I wonder who is getting deported first? How long will it be until the disabled are gotten rid of (sorry to even say that, but I can’t be the only one wondering)? I watched a movie called “Zone of Interest” earlier this year, it’s setting is the fully operational Auschwitz concentration camp. Mass deportations in the hands of USA law officers will probably not go as discreetly implied as it was shown in that movie, I imagine.

Sorry to speculate about too many grim rumors already! I asked a chatbot if it’s worthwhile to worry about (since I have no mental health care workers in my life anymore to discuss my anxieties), and that entity replied- many experts say yes.

Thanks for validating me, chatbot, and good luck to all who hope to intervene.

  1. Thanks for your concern about we here in red states. It really is hard right now, to even walk into the world. People voted to deport their family members with glee! I remember as a child beginning to learn about the Holocaust, I watched my mind trying to understand how that could happen, but then stopped it out of some superstition that life would show me if I wondered too hard. This time certainly won’t be like 2017-2021, because there’s a lot more organization and technology in play, but I pray there’s some inkling of wanting to prove and leave a ‘good’ legacy here at the end.
