Korean Coffee

Usually I’m more of a tea drinker but I made the amazing mistake of buying individually wrapped packets of instant coffee from an Asian grocery store recently.  I’m not sure why I took the leap towards “harder” stuff but I have periodically gotten hooked on coffee and then quit again. It happens maybe once a year or so.  As long as I don’t resupply myself, I should be freed of my lowkey addiction within a few weeks! Until then I’m trying to make a point of letting this excessive energy fuel my endless chores at home, and some neglected hobbies (such as blogging).

I drink it in the morning only and have to say I would definitely recommend, if it seems interesting. The brand I got is called Maxim, it’s sold on Amazon too of course (they even have a variety pack with 5 different flavors) but I bought them in person when it caught my eye at the store. Usually when I want to drink coffee I’ll get a single cup from a café, but sometimes I’m inspired to have it at home too and then get kinda hooked for a short while.  Sometimes I’m tempted by the canned and bottled coffee drinks too, but coffee’s rarely been something I make at home daily.

The directions according to Google Lens suggest mixing this particular instant coffee with much less water than would be used in the usual serving of US brands I’ve tried, and I experimented a few times with using more water and/or adding in a 2nd package. Though it seems they might like a smaller serving of coffee to drink, Korean coffee is not at all lacking in that caffeine kick. One extremely satisfying aspect in this convenient drink selection is that in addition to the coffee crystals it also contains 50 calories worth of sugar and powdered creamer. I’m certainly no coffee connoisseur, but that is not something I’ve encountered before. An important reason why I don’t like to make coffee at home is the very necessity of these additional ingredients for me to enjoy them. Sugar and milk or cream are honestly not food items I keep at home.

When I run out of this instant coffee I plan to get back onto my tea game and stay in that lane a while! I’ll let you know more about my favorite tea varieties then, and how badly I’m suffering coffee withdrawal, if that happens. If you’ve tried this drink or have other recommedations I’d love to hear them, and/or any of your thoughts on a delicious morning beverage. Cheers!
