Darned Pink Socks

I repaired my favorite knit socks a few times because they are so cute and perfect but I’m giving up on them now. The design came from my brain, no pattern at all, they were a custom fit and I loved them. I knit them myself with much attention to detail and enjoyed wearing them for almost 4 years, so I’m trying to practice gratitude and happiness about it all.

The socks were made from the most expensive yarn I’d ever bought, it was about $28 in 2019. I would probably not pay $28 for a single pair of socks myself, but for my hobby it seemed like a worthwhile investment. I was wrong though, and maybe it was a total scam. The yarn description said it was meant for knitting socks (and was hand painted with dye, to help explain the price) it’s a brand popularized from social media and unfortunately my wool socks didn’t hold up long at all. I learned to “darn” the holes that appeared within a year,  and when more would show up, I fixed them again and again. I’m an experienced knitter but not knowledgeable about what defects in wool could be causing my frustration here.

Sadly my socks came out from the wash tattered again today, and so I’m saying goodbye to them, I give up! I have other socks made in the same style of knitting, same size needles, from yarns around $10 that are holding up much better. I’ll miss these cute pink socks but I know I can recreate another pair with a better choice of yarn 🤔
