I was about 6 or 7 years old the first time I had a deck of tarot cards in my hands, it was in the 1980’s and the images were instantly enchanting to me. The cards were my mother’s, the deck was called The Herbal Tarot and I still have them. I’ve gone in and out of tarot phases a few times but only in the last 2 years have been really collecting many decks on my own. I will somehow learn to add photos to my blog soon and show them off
When she was in high school my dear daughter gave me a blank tarot deck coloring kit with colored pencils, and that was my 2nd deck. It took me a few years to finish coloring completely! I used colored pencils, markers, crayons and paint. Little by little! The process wasn’t very enjoyable at all, so I learned about myself I don’t like coloring..but all the same I treasure that gift and still like to use the deck
It wasn’t until April 2020 in the coronavirus lockdown that I ever decided to buy myself a tarot deck on my own. Like most people I was in my home going through some life disruption and uncertainty! Looking carefully at every item within my apartment over weeks.. There was a long traditional rumor in the tarot world: only a gifted deck of cards is legit! It’s old-fashioned gatekeeping to make the hobby seem more exclusive or occult I guess, and I have internalized many such horrible lies from the past tbqh. But after some agonizing I decided to order The Kawaii Tarot from Amazon, and I never regretted it. It’s so adorable.. mainly pale pink and an extremely comforting art style I love to see.
Somehow we come to my tarot hobby in the present day- I have collected almost 30 tarot card decks (lol). I won’t describe them all right now. Some that weren’t my favorite, I ended up giving away, and I’ve slowed down shopping for them lately. I bought them from ebay, etsy, local stores or directly from the artists usually. My daughter told me about the app Labarynthos (it has a few virtual decks) so that has been satisfying to use too. I will probably write more about this topic again sometime, I just want to share a bit of my tarot journey 🃏
